POSITION OVERVIEW
Manages the educational framework for Fellows, Residents, Students, and newly recruited Sonographers. Provides instruction and support in executing diagnostic echocardiographic procedures to evaluate cardiac structures and hemodynamics, employing various techniques, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, M-Mode, color flow, pulse wave, and continuous wave Doppler, in accordance with established Rochester Regional Health Policies and Procedures.

CREDENTIALING
Required certification in echocardiography from: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently performs routine and specialized echocardiographic studies, including transthoracic, stress echocardiographic techniques, transesophageal, and contrast exams as necessary at various facilities within Rochester Regional.
- Adheres to HIPAA regulations, ensuring patient confidentiality and privacy. Introduces self to patients, explaining their role in care. Clarifies procedures with instructions to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and optimal results. Assists patients during transfers from wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to exam table.
- Reviews preliminary diagnostic reports attached to procedures to provide initial interpretations for the reading cardiologist, offering preliminary comments for each structure examined. Engages in discussions with the reading cardiologist as required.
- Obtains and presents previous echocardiographic studies for comparison with current evaluations, if available.
- Facilitates and coordinates the professional development, education, and training of Fellows, Residents, Students, and newly hired Sonographers. Acts as the imaging resource expert for all cardiac sonographers on staff.
- Delivers educational presentations to Fellows, Residents, Students, and cardiac sonographers.
- Serves as a super-user during the introduction of new equipment or programs to the department.
- Collaborates with Chief Sonographer, Lead Sonographers, and Fellowship faculty.
- Participates in the development of educational courses and curriculum.
- Engages in scan labs at RIT and other educational institutions.
- Maintains a productivity rate of at least 70%, averaging 5 to 6 patients daily.
- Willingness to travel to all Rochester Regional Health sites as needed.
- Oversees all educational activities for Cardiology Fellows, Fellows from other specialties, Residents, Students, and newly hired Sonographers across all inpatient and outpatient locations.
- Conducts evaluations and maintains ongoing assessments of Fellow, Resident, Student, and Sonographer performance, reporting to Lead Sonographers, Chief System Cardiac Sonographer, and Cardiology fellowship faculty.
- Leads quality assurance initiatives.
- Participates in and spearheads special projects, including process and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contributes to efforts to achieve and maintain IAC accreditation for the echo lab, including related QA processes and meetings. Ensures compliance by Cardiac Sonographers with IAC objectives and quality assurance initiatives.
- Supports Fellows, Residents, Students, and newly hired Sonographers during recruitment and orientation.
- Acts as a resource for staff in resolving complex issues and enhancing technical skills.
- Assists the system Chief Sonographer, Division head of Cardiac Imaging, and site Echo Directors in developing new clinical Policies and Procedures.
- Utilizes independent judgment during exams to ensure accurate capture of anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions in exam images per current RRH Echocardiography Policies and Procedures.
- Conducts necessary cardiac measurements to generate preliminary findings and manage image acquisition/storage to support the interpreting physician in finalizing diagnostic reports.
- Maintains the echo lab facility and exam rooms in optimal condition, communicating facility needs as appropriate.
- Troubleshoots daily operations, equipment malfunctions, and inventory/product supply issues.
- Addresses conflicts related to resources necessary for efficient operations.
- Ensures ultrasound equipment operates at optimal levels.
- Participates in monthly echo fellow conferences at RRH, as well as local and national Echocardiography/Cardiology conferences to enhance clinical knowledge.
- Maintains a positive attitude and collaborative working relationships with peers and supervisory staff, welcoming feedback and coaching constructively.
- At least five (5) years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.

CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
RCS - Registered Cardiac Sonographer - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), RDCS - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.

PAY RANGE:
$47.00
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full-time applicant. It may be modified in the future and is eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
