Role Overview:
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) function is designed to offer support, guidance, and validation of manufacturing techniques that facilitate cost-effective and robust manufacturing solutions aligned with Oshkosh's product and business vision.
The AME Lead will provide advanced technical leadership, industry expertise, and insights to represent Manufacturing Engineering throughout the lifecycle of vehicle design and development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Review and Support Product Design Activities:**
- Engage during the concept engineering phase to provide assessments of advanced manufacturing feasibility and direction approval.
- Act as the primary liaison with manufacturing partners to confirm and negotiate manufacturing feasibility sign-off during the concept and production design phases.
2. **Change Management Coordination:**
- Facilitate change management with manufacturing partners, representing Engineering in tooling and equipment change cost and timing reviews.
3. **Leadership and Direction:**
- Direct other AME staff, whether contract or Oshkosh employees, ensuring effective collaboration across product engineering, program management, purchasing, process engineering, and quality.
4. **Manufacturing Engineering Development:**
- Lead the creation and enhancement of Oshkosh's unibody Advanced Manufacturing Engineering capabilities, fostering opportunities for promotion aligned with departmental growth needs.
5. **Advocate for Manufacturing Engineering:**
- Champion manufacturing engineering principles throughout the design and development process, ensuring that designs and manufacturing solutions meet customer requirements and corporate objectives.
6. **Problem Solving and Resource Management:**
- Lead problem-solving initiatives to understand root causes and develop effective countermeasures to close performance gaps.
- Manage project scope, cost, timeline, and risk, supporting the identification and coordination of project scope change requests.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in automotive manufacturing engineering or a similar domain.
- In-depth knowledge of unibody manufacturing processes, including forming and assembly technologies.
- Proficiency in design for manufacturing (DFM) principles and experience in launching new product development projects.
- Familiarity with CAD and manufacturing simulation tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with CAD (Catia) and manufacturing applications.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
