Job Summary

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Assistant to join their Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering Department. This is a temporary, casual position, and is eligible for casual benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assembly, maintenance, and repair of oceanographic equipment with instruction and advice.
  • Select and operate standard test equipment, record test data, and perform routine analyses.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments to troubleshoot and correct minor malfunctions.
  • Perform non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity given well-defined objectives and technical advice from a supervisor or engineering staff member.
  • Fabricate and construct complex components of instrumentation requiring care and accuracy.
  • Use computers to run application programs or to do simple programming tasks.
  • Use CAD systems to prepare schematics, drawings, or parts lists.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus six years' mechanical or electronics experience, or Technical School training plus four years' practical experience, or two to three years' progress toward an engineering or related degree.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise judgment in selecting or adapting procedures and equipment.

Special Requirements

The selected candidate's level of education and experience will determine the final level of the position, which could be either Engineering Assistant II or Engineering Assistant III.
