Residential Support Staff Member

Job Summary:

Care for individuals with disabilities in a residential environment, including activities within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for those served on personal, family, and community levels.
  • Observe and document changes in the physical and mental condition of those served.
  • Administer first aid and simple nursing procedures as needed.
  • Ensure the privacy and dignity of those served and report any suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Transport individuals to and from community locations using an agency vehicle or personal vehicle as needed.
  • Administer programs to individuals and document progress, as prescribed.
  • Assist in meal preparation, cleaning, small home repairs, and light residential maintenance duties.
  • Provide hospitality to all visitors at the residence.
  • Explore opportunities for community participation possibilities for those served.

Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education and/or Experience:

A high school diploma or GED is normally acquired.

Language Skills:

Ability to document statistics and prepare correspondence, communicate effectively with a variety of groups and individuals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to make decisions and reason through situations ensuring the welfare and safety of individuals served.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

A valid MI Driver's license is required.

Other Qualifications:

Good moral character as defined by the state of Michigan, and be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Demands:

Exerting pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or assist clients.

Work Environment:

Normally in an indoor residential setting, may include other indoor areas such as offices, stores, locations of social activities, etc.
