Palo Alto, California, United States Raymond Laboratory of Neurobiology at Stanford University Full time
Research Scientist Position

The Raymond Laboratory of Neurobiology at Stanford University seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate the neural mechanisms of learning and memory. As a researcher in our lab, you will contribute to uncovering the principles governing learning by combining molecular, cellular, systems, behavioral, and computational approaches.

- What are the rules that determine whether a given synapse will change in response to an experience?

- How do the local rules implemented at synapses throughout a circuit together define an effective algorithm for tuning that circuit's performance?

- How do different timescales of plasticity and consolidation support learning?

We are particularly interested in metaplasticity and have recently discovered a new form of synaptic metaplasticity, temporal metaplasticity. This area is crucial for improving the way a circuit learns, i.e., in metalearning. You will work with us to advance these exciting scientific efforts.

A PhD in neuroscience or related discipline is required. Experience with in vitro or in vivo electrophysiology is desirable but not necessary. Lab members are encouraged to learn new techniques as needed to advance their projects.

The PI is committed to providing strong mentorship and support for your scientific and professional goals. Our lab provides a highly collegial scientific environment, and the broader Stanford community offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and professional development.

Our laboratory seeks candidates who can effectively communicate their research ideas and results through publications and presentations. Your estimated annual salary will be around $60,000 - $80,000, depending on your qualifications and experience.
