Maintenance Manager Job Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance of all plant operating equipment and facility buildings. This role requires a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and good housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to prioritize work, obtain necessary supplies, and assess skills needed to complete tasks.
  • Engage with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments and delegate tasks based on their skills and experience.
  • Oversee and evaluate the maintenance department team, ensuring ongoing training and development of their skill sets.
  • Manage preventative and predictive maintenance programs to minimize maintenance costs and track reliability improvements.
  • Conduct root-cause failure analysis on component and critical equipment failures, including resolution and corrective action implementation.
  • Provide technical support and training to the maintenance team and production personnel on component and critical equipment issues and solutions.
  • Responsible for preventive maintenance of systems and equipment, scheduling target dates for restoration, repair, or replacement of inoperative components and parts.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with current contractors, vendors, and service providers, evaluating the marketplace for new contacts as needed.
  • Understand the upkeep of electro-mechanical equipment, such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, agitators, shrink wrap machines, and all utilities, including boilers, chillers, air compressors, and wastewater systems.
  • Ensure maintenance and repair work is completed safely, effectively, and in a timely manner, completing all work instructions, orders, and forms.
  • Maintain electronic maintenance records for the site, including preventative maintenance, equipment files, and work order systems.
  • Comply with all plant safety rules, mechanical integrity procedures, and plant maintenance procedures, attending and participating in team safety meetings and site safety programs.
Requirements:
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, adjusting priorities as necessary.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify issues and determine necessary repairs.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules for plant and building systems.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to complete reports, logs, and inventory.
  • Ability to maintain computerized maintenance systems.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (Mechanical or Chemical).
  • Minimum 2-5 years' experience working in a chemical plant with an emphasis on plant equipment or project management, with a preference for previous maintenance supervision experience.
  • Prior experience in maintenance engineering with an emphasis on chemical compatibility, equipment failure analysis, and system troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience reading schematics, plant, and equipment drawings preferred.
  • Training and working knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Prior experience using computerized maintenance management software.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work an eight-hour shift in a chemical manufacturing and warehouse environment.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to constantly move within and around the exterior of the facility.
  • Occasionally ascend or descend a ladder to perform maintenance responsibilities.
  • Ability to detect and recognize alarms and warning signals.
Work Environment:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside the manufacturing and warehouse facility and outside in various conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, and dry/arid conditions. The employee must frequently use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. The company operates under ISO practices and procedures.
