Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Controller in the Automotive/Finance sector. This position is perfect for a driven, detail-oriented individual with a robust background in finance and accounting, particularly within the automotive realm. As the Controller, you will oversee the financial operations of our organization, which includes generating financial reports, maintaining accounting records, and implementing a comprehensive set of controls and budgets to mitigate risks, enhance the accuracy of financial reporting, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the accounting department's operations, ensuring an effective organizational structure to meet departmental goals.
- Develop and uphold a system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements.
- Coordinate the annual corporate report preparation.
- Calculate and disseminate financial and operational metrics.
- Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Provide financial analysis as necessary, particularly for capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
- Establish and manage a loss review program while maintaining loss reserves.
- Monitor cash balances and forecasts.
- Facilitate debt and equity financing arrangements.
- Oversee all fiscal reporting activities, including revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, and budget development.
- Supervise banking activities.
- Ensure sufficient cash flow to meet organizational needs.
- Mentor and coach the office manager on a weekly basis.
- Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensuring a disaster recovery plan is in place.
- Manage business insurance plans and analyze healthcare coverage.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent experience with 5+ years in a progressively responsible role in a major company or division.
- Preference for candidates with Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
- Required experience in the automotive industry, specifically with auto dealerships.
- Proven ability to collaborate with an executive team, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, and complex formulas.
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the non-profit sector.
- Experience should encompass legal, audit, compliance, budgeting, and resource development.
- Proven excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting.
- Skills in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret a strategic vision into an operational model.
- Effective communicator with strong oral and written skills.
- Commitment to developing team members.
- Ability to see the big picture and provide valuable insights across the organization.
