About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Packaging Engineer to join our team at Dennis Group for New Grads, Co-Ops & Internships. As a Packaging Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and building packaging equipment lines for our food and beverage industry clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Develop design concepts, estimates, and functional specifications for packaging lines, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Equipment Specification and Installation: Specify, purchase, install, and commission packaging equipment, ensuring that it meets the required standards.
  • Project Coordination and Management: Coordinate and manage on-site construction projects, ensuring that they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Machine and Process Design: Design and develop machine and process designs, including preparation of machine testing requirements and procedures.
  • Equipment and Facility Layout: Prepare equipment specification, purchase documentation, and equipment/facility layout.
  • Surveying and Packaging Flow Diagrams: Conduct surveys of existing conditions and create packaging flow diagrams.
  • Material Balance and Packaging Matrix: Create material balance and packaging matrix.
  • Equipment Lists and Bid Packages: Create equipment lists and assist with equipment bid packages.
  • Control and Electrical Panels: Understand size and placement of control/electrical panels.
  • Design Basis Documents and Scopes of Work: Create design basis documents and scopes of work.
  • Manufacturing and Packaging Design Principles: Provide advisement in manufacturing and packaging design principles, including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing.
  • Process Simulation and Construction Site Support: Assist in process simulation and provide construction site support.
  • Sanitary Design and Warehouse Design: Assist in sanitary design and warehouse design and layout.
  • AutoCAD Equipment Layouts: Develop AutoCAD equipment layouts.
  • Packaging Engineering Best Practices: Research and implement packaging engineering best practices.
  • Talent Growth and Development: Support talent growth and development within our organization.

Requirements:

  • Education: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering.
  • GPA: 3.0 or above.
  • Travel: Willing to travel to project sites, potentially up to 50%.
  • Skills: Familiarity with process flow diagrams and P&IDs, intellectual curiosity, and a positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude.
  • Software Skills: Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Bonus Points: Experience with sanitary design and warehouse design and layout, process simulation, and past process experience in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, or other sanitary environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged Sitting and Computer Work: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel Requirement:

  • Up to 50% Travel: Up to 50% travel required to visit project sites and other offices.
