Position Overview

Lilac Learning Center is in search of a dedicated and skilled Exceptional Needs Educator to spearhead our innovative special education program. This role is crucial in delivering tailored educational experiences for students with moderate to severe disabilities, focusing on enhancing communication abilities, adaptive behaviors, life skills, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Staff Management:
    • Facilitate professional development opportunities.
    • Delegate responsibilities to Lead Technicians and Behavior Technicians.
    • Collaborate with the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) on student objectives and documentation.
  • Student Engagement:
    • Assess individual student needs.
    • Create a nurturing and effective learning atmosphere.
    • Implement necessary accommodations.
    • Design lesson plans and educational resources.
    • Maintain and develop Individualized Education Program (IEP) documentation.
    • Evaluate student progress and performance.
    • Serve as the primary educator for assigned students.
    • Manage physical interventions when necessary.
  • Facility Oversight:
    • Communicate student progress to parents.
    • Research and develop curriculum materials.
    • Assist with maintaining a clean and organized environment.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Essential Skills:

Educational Background:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Certification in Special Education (K-12).

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Proven history of working with individuals exhibiting severe behavioral challenges.
Physical Requirements

Must be capable of performing various physical activities, including:

  • Maintaining different postures for extended periods.
  • Performing physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Responding swiftly to the needs of active students.
Work Environment

Expect moderate to loud noise levels from students and educational activities. The role may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and requires physical activity that could lead to potential injury. There may also be exposure to bodily fluids, necessitating appropriate health precautions.
