Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Patient Registration Specialist PRN to join our team at Saint Alphonsus Health System. As a key member of our Patient Access team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth registration process for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient identification and demographic information
  • Obtain and verify insurance coverage
  • Accept point of service payments
  • Enter patient information accurately into our hospital information system
  • Refers patients with questions regarding financial liability to appropriate resources
  • Process key documents to facilitate obtaining insurance information
  • Provide payment estimates for out of pocket costs
  • Educate patients/families on the use of registration kiosks or online systems
  • Identify routine issues and escalate to Supervisor, Patient Access
  • Process insurance claim forms
  • Review claims/accounts for complete information, correct and complete forms to ensure accuracy
  • Access information and translate data into information acceptable to the claims processing system
  • Prepare claims for return to provider/subscriber if additional information is needed
  • Maintain all appropriate claim files and follow up on suspended or outstanding claims
  • Identify, research, and resolve issues related to coordination of benefits, subrogation, and general inquiry issues, then communicate the results
  • Identify routine payer or provider issues and escalate to Lead Patient Financial Services Representative
  • Act as a point of contact for assigned payers
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements throughout all activities
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred
  • Prior work experience performing customer service activities within a hospital or clinic environment, an insurance company, managed care organization or other health care financial setting preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance and governmental programs, regulations and billing processes and/or managed care contracts and coordination of benefits preferred
