Position Overview

The Refrigeration Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing ammonia refrigeration equipment and conducting maintenance activities to ensure seamless facility operations. This role includes managing compliance and safety standards in accordance with established regulations. The manager will also be tasked with training, scheduling, and supervising refrigeration technicians to ensure all safety protocols and operational requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform timely preventative maintenance on ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, and evaporators, to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Replace malfunctioning refrigeration equipment as necessary.
  • Adjust equipment temperature settings to meet customer needs while maintaining product integrity.
  • Oversee the water treatment system and manage associated chemicals.
  • Ensure all documentation and reports comply with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Monitor third-party maintenance vendors for adherence to safety policies.
  • Conduct regular ammonia and oil sampling for analysis.
  • Train team members on ammonia leak and spill response procedures.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and conduct drills.
  • Inspect and calibrate ammonia detection systems as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; further education or technical training is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in ammonia refrigeration.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) or willingness to complete in-house training.
  • Certification as an Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO) Level 1 or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to supervise a small team and contribute to process development.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs frequently and 60 lbs occasionally.
  • Comfortable working in a refrigerated warehouse environment.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including extreme cold.
