We are seeking a highly skilled Laser Scientist to support our current work at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). This position requires experience in laboratory, electrical-optics (EO) field, or in lasers. Independent research experience is desirable. Experience in Electronic Warfare (EW), Radar or Laser engineering may be substituted in lieu of the PhD requirement.
Key Responsibilities- Perform laboratory and field test evaluation of laser systems and performance in detailed data reduction and analysis of these systems.
- Conduct laser system characterization tests.
- Develop and maintain expertise in infrared lasers and infrared missile seekers.
- Design and operate ultra short pulse lasers.
- Investigate femtosecond laser effects on materials, femtosecond laser propagation and interaction with the atmosphere.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
- Communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain administrative tools such as MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ph.D. in physics, engineering, chemistry or a Master's degree combined with experience in Electronic Warfare (EW), Radar or Laser engineering may be substituted in lieu of the PhD requirement.
- Minimum 10 years' experience (Ph.D.) or 15 years' experience (Masters) in applications research.
- Current DoD Secret clearance that is currently active or active anytime within the 24 months prior to date of hire.
- Grade point average: 3.0 minimum; 3.3 is desired.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work well within a team.
- Proficiency with administrative tools such as MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
