Position Overview:

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in TRISO nuclear fuels within our Computational Mechanics and Materials division. This role operates on a 9x80 schedule, providing a balanced work-life environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth analyses of advanced nuclear fuels, particularly TRISO and layered-architecture fuels, utilizing the finite element fuel performance code, BISON.
  • Develop and implement simulations aimed at enhancing nuclear fuel research, applicable to various reactor designs.
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of simulations through diverse methodologies and collaborations with multiple programs and sponsors.
  • Contribute to engineering initiatives addressing significant scientific challenges and complex technological issues.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, computational science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field, completed within the last five years.
  • Proficiency in scientific computing languages such as C++, Python, and LaTeX, along with experience in software development and code stewardship.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fuel performance modeling techniques, including numerical methods and constitutive modeling.
  • Strong communication skills for articulating scientific findings and presenting research at conferences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research and development team.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual Salary: $96,900
