Examinations:


Written Examination (Weight 100%) may encompass knowledge of records management principles and practices; policies and procedures related to the preparation, utilization, distribution, retention, retrieval, and release of police reports, arrest records, or various other records and reports; computer operating systems and software pertinent to processing and maintaining records; basic supervisory and training principles, along with other relevant subjects.

The Human Resources Division may conduct an evaluation of application materials if there are not enough candidates to justify a performance examination. If a performance examination is required, it will also be weighted at 100%. Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 70% on each phase of the examination process.


Minimum Qualifications/ Employment Standards:
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.

Three years of clerical experience, including one year as a Records Specialist for a Sheriff's Office or other law enforcement agency, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Certification of Typing/Keyboarding speed of 50 net words per minute is required.
Possession of a Valid California Driver's License may be necessary upon appointment for certain positions.

Applicants MUST submit a copy of their typing or keyboard certificate, issued within the last two years, verifying a speed of 50 net words per minute, along with their completed application. Certificates must meet the testing standards established by the Civil Service Commission.

Admittance to the examination requires valid government-issued photographic identification. Applicants unable to present proper identification must coordinate with the Human Resources Division before the test date.

Successful candidates will undergo fingerprinting and must pass a background investigation. Following a job offer, candidates may be required to undergo post-offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

This examination will create an eligible list for immediate appointments within the Sheriff's Office. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as necessary. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for twelve months unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
