The advocate ensures the accuracy of patient information and maintains communication to verify self-pay statuses, diligently monitoring accounts until they are settled or referred to another agency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and clarify patient financial responsibilities for services rendered, ensuring they comprehend their estimated costs and how to fulfill them.
  • Evaluate patients for eligibility in state insurance programs and the financial assistance initiatives offered.
  • Facilitate payment collection from patients during their visits.
  • Arrange financial plans for patients with substantial financial commitments.
  • Verify the accuracy of self-pay patient information, reviewing daily reports and contacting patients to confirm their financial status.
  • Conduct patient visits to validate insurance and financial classifications, informing them of self-pay admission options.
  • Audit self-pay invoices for discrepancies, ensuring corrections are made and documented prior to billing.
  • Collaborate with financial representatives to address insurance information received through follow-up communications.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding billing and financial arrangements for self-pay patients and those with financial obligations post-insurance.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred experience or training in a healthcare office environment or related educational background.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.
  • Understanding of insurance eligibility criteria, billing practices, and charity care policies is essential.
  • Exhibit empathy and care, playing a vital role in ensuring the financial health of the organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, departments, and the public is necessary, along with effective prioritization and deadline management skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Familiarity with standard computer systems and business software is necessary.
