Elementary Music Educator K-8 - Part-time Hourly Position

Class Overview

Instructing students from Kindergarten through 8th grade in Choir and General Music, comprising 5 classes with approximately 12 students each.

Position Responsibilities

The role involves serving as the Elementary Choir and General Music Instructor.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Head of School.

Schedule

Classes are conducted for 45 minutes each (totaling 5 classes) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, commencing at 9:15 AM.

Compensation

This is a part-time hourly position.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Music Education or a related discipline.
  • Proven ability to deliver engaging and meaningful lesson plans and instruction in Elementary choir and general music.
  • Effective use of compassionate classroom management techniques.
  • Collaborative and inclusive approach to working with others.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting and advancing the educational philosophy of Prairie School of DuPage.
  • Capability to collaborate with the main office, grades coordinator, and orchestra teacher to organize performances for school concerts.
  • Experience in directing a children's choir.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching music to children in a classroom environment.

General Expectations

  • Maintain open communication and collaboration with the Head of School, staff, faculty, and parents.
  • Adhere to the policies and guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook and Grade Guidebook.
  • Demonstrate punctuality, organization, and preparedness for each day.
  • Foster meaningful and respectful relationships with each student, providing encouragement in an age-appropriate and ethical manner.
  • Engage with staff and parents in a positive, professional, and ethical manner.

Key Responsibilities

The Elementary Choir and General Music Instructor is tasked with delivering authentic and comprehensive choir and general music education to students at Prairie School of DuPage.

  • Develop daily lesson plans aligned with the school's mission.
  • Teach Elementary choir and general music classes.
  • Prepare students for two annual concerts (winter and spring) and graduation performances.
  • Generate three student reports per student each calendar year that align with national core standards.
