Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Structural Fitter to join our team at Southwest Shipyard. As a key member of our fabrication team, you will be responsible for performing structural fitting functions, including laying out, positioning, and aligning fabricated steel plate according to customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Work safely and maintain a safe working environment, reporting any safety issues or concerns to the foreman or supervisor.
  • Collaborate with the foreman or supervisor to resolve installation or repair problems, and provide input on the sequence of operations and time required to complete tasks.
Requirements
  • Minimum one year of experience as a structural fitter, preferably in a shipyard environment.
  • Ability to perform simple paperwork, including filling out forms and logs.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the foreman and supervisor, and have good judgment skills and a high-level work initiative.
Working Conditions
  • Work in a barge chemical environment, with prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing, and lifting of heavy objects (up to 120 lbs) as required.
  • Ability to work in varied conditions, including heat, cold, rain, ice, and snow, both inside and outside.
  • Able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and operate equipment efficiently and safely.
Compensation
