Position Summary

This is a Casual Staff Nurse role within the Primary Care department, which encompasses both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, specifically at the Huntley clinic. This position operates on an as-needed basis to cover absences due to vacation and illness, with shifts lasting 8 hours.

The Staff Nurse PhysGrp embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to our Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive patient care by employing evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and minimize the risk of healthcare errors.
  • Administer medications following the six rights of medication administration, considering the patient's age and clinical condition.
  • Utilize critical thinking to justify clinical decisions.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to evaluate patients' physical, psychosocial, rehabilitation, safety, learning, spiritual, cultural, age-specific, special risk, and self-care needs.
  • Identify and document patient care needs, problems, and variances, integrating these into the care plan.
  • Assess patients' learning needs and preferences, recognizing support systems and barriers to learning.
  • Communicate procedures, therapies, and treatments to patients and their families, documenting their responses to education.
  • Engage patients and families in the development of the care plan.
  • Create, implement, and update individualized care plans based on identified patient needs, including nursing, education, continuity of care, and discharge planning.
  • Effectively assess and manage pain, educating patients and families on pain management strategies.
  • Leverage quality improvement data to enhance nursing practices and healthcare delivery.
  • Participate in shared governance, committee activities, and departmental projects.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Current nursing experience (within the last five years) or a recent nursing graduate (within the last two years).
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Illinois (IDFPR).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • One year of experience in a relevant clinical specialty.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
