Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our General Medical Oncology team at Duke Health Center at Southpoint. The ideal candidate will have exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience, with a strong ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide direct patient care services to patients with various cancer types.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform complete physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post-treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, and treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level judgment, including prescribing medications.
  • Chart patient progress and maintain detailed and accurate health records.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Participate in clinical research projects and collaborate with supervising and backup physicians and APP colleagues.
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students, and other learners.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
Requirements
  • Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Certification: BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
  • License: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
  • Experience: 1+ years of oncology APP experience strongly preferred.
