Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties include the operation of sonographic equipment and the performance and communication of diagnostic examinations utilizing sonography.
- Welcome patients and provide clear instructions regarding procedures.
- Organize and coordinate patient examinations.
- Conduct various exams, particularly cardiac echo procedures.
- Employ cognitive sonographic skills to identify, document, and modify procedures as necessary based on anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information.
- Utilize independent judgment during sonographic exams to accurately distinguish between normal and abnormal findings.
- Assess sonographic images for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment and workspaces, ensuring adequate supplies are available.
- Attend to the psychological and physical needs of patients and their families during ultrasound procedures.
The candidate must demonstrate current competencies relevant to the position. Flexibility for evening and Saturday shifts, as well as the ability to float between locations as required, is essential.
Education and ExperienceEducation: High school diploma; completion of a formal sonography program is required.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience and/or training in ECHO Sonography is necessary.
CertificationsCertifications: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential with an AE specialty or RDCS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer is required. Current BLS certification is also necessary.
Knowledge and Skills- Expertise in ultrasound echo procedures and protocols.
- Understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Awareness of safety hazards associated with radiology and sonography.
- Ability to utilize computer and network systems for processing and submitting images for radiologist interpretation.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures, including AED function and crash cart location.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within and outside the department with staff, patients, and families.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain procedures to patients in an understandable manner.
This role requires full body motion and the ability to lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Positioning of patients is also necessary, along with the ability to maintain 20/20 correctable vision.
Work EnvironmentThe work setting includes medical offices, examination, and treatment rooms. Exposure to radiation, needles, communicable diseases, and other conditions typical in a radiology environment is expected. Work locations may vary.
