The Department of State Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse I to join our team. As a key member of our public health nursing team, you will play a critical role in coordinating services to perform immunization and surveillance duties.
Key Responsibilities- Client Services: Provide public health nursing services to clients with a range of health needs in Bee County and surrounding counties. Coordinate immunization clinics for under-immunized individuals in underserved communities, ensuring compliance with eligibility, vaccine administration, documentation, and confidentiality requirements.
- Consumer Information: Coordinate and travel to participate in activities to educate and motivate the public in English and Spanish about the importance and safety of immunizations. Distribute and ensure patient understanding of the Vaccine Information Statement (VIS), which informs parents and recipients about the risks and benefits of vaccines.
- Vaccine Management: Ensure the proper handling and storage of vaccine, maintain vaccine inventory, and report accurate documentation on TWICES.
- Surveillance: Investigate and document suspected Vaccine Preventable Disease cases in the community. Travel to follow up on reports of serious adverse events following immunizations. Assist with Perinatal Hepatitis B case management throughout Region 11.
- Immunization Registry: Update information in the system to ensure at least 95% of children under 6 years of age are in the registry. Promote IMMTRAC2 among parents and providers.
- Licensed to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas.
- Current BLS/CPR Certification.
- Class C Texas driver's license or equivalent license from another state.
- Knowledge of Texas State Board of Nursing regulations and disease prevention.
- Skills in data entry using Microsoft computer programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint).
- Ability to demonstrate independent judgment in clinical situations and correctly interpret findings.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA Rules and Regulations.
- Effectively communicate with community partners.
