The PREOPSCREENING Clinic at Duke Health is seeking to hire a Clinical Service Nurse II who will uphold our mission of Advancing Health Together.

Summary

Our team is committed to delivering outstanding care for each patient, ensuring an exceptional patient experience every time. Ideal candidates will possess strong computer and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. We seek individuals who can build a solid rapport with patients and families over the phone, coordinate services, and provide education and nursing care in a clinical environment.

Role & Responsibilities:

The Clinical Services Nurse primarily conducts phone screenings for mid-acuity surgical patients regarding anesthesia risks. This involves gathering health history information and adhering to departmental protocols for perisurgical medication management. Findings are documented and communicated to the PASS attending/Surgical team. The role also supports clinic operations by performing patient intake, taking vital signs, conducting phlebotomy, and EKGs as needed.

Work Schedule:

This is a hybrid position, requiring one day a week in the clinic as an office intake nurse and three days working remotely conducting phone screenings.

Job Duties

  • Assess the nursing needs of both acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Plan, deliver, and document professional nursing care in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager, charge nurse, or practice manager.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare teams, physicians, administrators, and leadership.
  • Collect and analyze patient data, make recommendations for nursing care plans, evaluate nursing care provided, and document and communicate nursing actions and patient responses appropriately.
  • Educate patients and families according to the nursing plan of care.
  • Assist other nursing staff in delivering patient care and serve as a team leader.

Minimum Requirements

  • An accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma is required. (Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years.)
  • A current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina is required.
  • RNs with at least one year of nursing experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience in PeriOp or PACU is mandatory.
  • Venipuncture/IV experience is preferred.
  • BCLS certification is required.
  • Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing is required.
