Job Description

Certified Medication Aide - Direct Support Professional (DSP) with our Residential Team

Base rate of $22.00 with shift differentials of $2.00-$3.00 per hour, based off shift type

As a Certified Medication Aide-Direct Support Professional, you are responsible for administering medications to patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.

The Certified Medication Aide provides support to individuals with mental health conditions and involves assisting individuals with daily living tasks, promoting independence, and enhancing their quality of life in the residential care facility setting.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately administer medications to clients according to prescriptions and facility policies.
  • Ensure the correct dosage, timing, and method of delivery (oral, topical, etc.) of medication.
  • Monitor clients after medication administration for adverse reactions or side effects.
  • Record medication administration details in the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of medication administration and client responses.
  • Follow facility protocol and adhere to state regulations for safe medication handling and administration.
  • Encourage and educate clients about the importance of adhering to their medication plan.
  • Assist clients with tasks like cooking, cleaning, showering, toileting, shopping, and managing money.
  • Assist clients in developing social skills, engaging in hobbies, and participating in community events or recreational activities.
  • Encourage clients to participate in activities that foster self-reliance, decision-making, and personal growth.
  • Coach clients to appropriately cope with emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and other struggles.
  • Implement Evidence Based Mental Health Programs with clients.
  • De-escalate emotionally charged clients when needed.
  • Ensure the safety of all those involved (monitor meals, behaviors, activities).
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, prescribers, therapists, and other support staff.
  • Communicate with the multidisciplinary team via daily documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and verbal report.
Requirements
  • Medication Aid certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent required (GED or NCR accepted)
