Job Summary

The Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) is seeking an Associate Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary treatment team in the Division for Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY). As a key member of our team, you will work with youth, case managers, direct care staff, education, and medical staff to develop and enact comprehensive treatment plans aimed at increasing youths' skills in emotional intelligence, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct admission screening, including mental status exams and suicide assessments.
  • Develop 30-day assessments, including administration of mental health and substance use screens, youth and collateral interviews, and record reviews to create psychosocial assessments and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with assigned psychiatrists on treatment planning as needed.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.
  • Conduct treatment reviews and cognitive and other psychological testing as indicated.
  • Participate in the facility Committee on Special Education.
  • Develop discharge plans.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have a doctoral degree in a field of psychology and one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or a title eligible for 70.1 transfer. Additionally, you must have a one-year, full-time clinical internship, or traineeship, or one year of psychology experience in a clinical setting under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist.

Background Investigation Requirements

All prospective employees will undergo a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Convictions of felonies or misdemeanors, or any falsified or omitted information on the employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

Prospective employees will also be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) and may be required to pay any necessary fees. For DJJOY prospective appointees, names will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
