Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Revenue Agent to join our team in the Large Business and International Division. As a Revenue Agent, you will be responsible for conducting examinations of significant tax compliance issues and providing expert advice to impact tax compliance strategy and the examination program as a whole.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct examinations of significant tax compliance issues and provide expert advice to impact tax compliance strategy and the examination program as a whole.
  • Draft or review work projects involving emerging issues and areas of non-compliance.
  • Serve as an issue expert in the examination of LB&I returns and exercise significant authority and responsibility in planning, directing, and coordinating the examination of certain significant complex issues.
  • Lead for other revenue agents and specialists assigned to an examination and counsel attorneys, leading the team in conferences with appeals, including issue resolution meetings such as fast track.
  • Function as a resource in certain technical areas of expertise, collaborating and coordinating with other experts, revenue agents, counsel attorneys, appeals officers, and/or specialists throughout IRS to leverage and expand expertise and ensure consistent application and interpretation of tax laws within those areas.
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Qualifying experience includes experience in progressively responsible and diversified professional accounting or auditing work that required applying professional accounting principles, theory, and practices to analyze and interpret accounting books, records, or systems specifically to determine their effect on Federal tax liabilities and their adequacy for recording transactions affecting tax liabilities.
  • Interpreting and applying Federal tax law for individuals, business and/or exempt organizations, partnerships and corporations.
  • Researching business and trade practices to develop tax issues based on analysis and evaluation of overall business operations and financial condition.
  • Interpreting and analyzing the tax implications of corporate financial transactions and financial management principles and practices.
  • Interacting with a broad range of individuals and negotiating with specialists in accounting, legal, tax, and other similar business-related professions.
  • Experience using knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, regulations, rulings, court decisions, and agency policies to conduct extensive research of legal questions to be able to make decisions involving complex matters of the law and to develop and apply new resolution approaches.
  • Applying analytical and evaluative techniques, both qualitative and quantitative, sufficient to gather, identify, evaluate, and develop work methods and approaches to resolve complex interrelated problems and issues.
  • Using communicative techniques in order to deal tactfully and persuasively with sophisticated taxpayers and stakeholders, to explain complex interpretation of tax laws, regulations and resolve issues.
Additional Information

This is a bargaining unit position. Tour of Duty: Day Shift: Start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Relocation expenses - No. Cutoff dates: 2/8/2024; 5/8/2024; 6/13/2024; 10/17/2024; 1/24/2025.
