Role Purpose:
The Campus Safety Officer is an integral member of the University Police Department, tasked with safeguarding the campus community.
This role involves fostering positive relationships within the university, ensuring a secure environment, addressing safety concerns, and responding to both actual and potential criminal activities on campus. Additionally, the officer will manage traffic flow and investigate incidents related to security, safety, crime, and traffic.
Key Responsibilities:
The officer is a sworn peace officer primarily responsible for the protection of life and property within the university.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Engaging with supervisors, colleagues, and community members in a respectful and culturally aware manner, embodying the core values of the University Police while delivering exceptional customer service.
- Conducting patrols of designated areas on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle.
- Timely and accurately completing various written reports related to incidents, offenses, and other relevant documentation in accordance with established standards.
- Responding to emergency alarms and dispatched service calls.
- Monitoring and addressing actual and suspected criminal activities.
- Deterring crime and apprehending offenders as per state regulations.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to student safety and success, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Additionally, candidates should have positive experiences in engaging with diverse communities and building strong relationships.
Officers must be open to learning, teaching, and actively supporting the mission and values of Northern Kentucky University.
Additional Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 at the time of appointment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of a thorough background check.
- Demonstration of competent patrol and investigative skills as outlined in the Field Training Observation & Evaluation program.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience: As specified in the posting details.
Salary: Based on qualifications and experience; competitive rates for highly qualified lateral candidates.
Pay Grade: S67
Additional Information: Candidates offered this position will be required to undergo a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
