Job Summary:
Safely transport students to and from school, activities, and other events while maintaining a cooperative attitude and building rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, school personnel, and the community. Effectively manage student behaviors, use professional verbal and written communication skills, and present oneself in a professional manner. Maintain a clean and safe vehicle, complete required trainings and meetings, and work as a team to keep the interior and exterior of the vehicle presentable. In case of an emergency, quickly and safely evacuate the vehicle. Check student rosters to ensure proper ridership, maintain current knowledge of student requirements, and respond appropriately to events. Properly secure students in safety equipment and restraints, assist non-ambulatory students, and accurately complete reports and paperwork. Abide by federal, state, and district laws, policies, and expectations, and utilize technology when required. Perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post-trip inspections, report accidents, and ensure the vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy. Prepare the vehicle for student transport, including inclement weather, harnesses, and booster seats. Safely and appropriately operate various types of vehicles and equipment, including radios and emergency equipment. Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner and report all moving violations to the Transportation Manager. Clean the van according to department procedures and perform other duties as assigned.

Environment:
Work in an indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing temperatures, including extreme heat and cold. Direct contact with the public, students, and other district staff may occur. May be exposed to heights, loud noises, fumes, dust, and other odors. May be subject to tight deadlines and continuously changing priorities and interruptions. Work with moving vehicles, motorized wheelchair lifts, and other equipment.

Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. Entering and exiting vehicles regularly. Descend from the back door of the vehicle in emergencies onto uncertain surfaces. Repeatedly lifting and carrying students or objects weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feet. Repeatedly pushing and pulling wheelchairs or objects weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feet. Continuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively. Using both hands and legs simultaneously. Repeated stooping, bending, and kneeling. Occasional pushing, pulling, and maintaining balance. Rapid mental/muscular coordination. Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner. Accurate depth perception. Clarity of vision at varying distances to see small details. Operate mobile motorized equipment. Drive a vehicle to conduct work.

Hazards:
Possible contact with blood-borne pathogens and/or bodily fluids. Contact with chemicals used for cleaning buses.
