Job Title: Building Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Rochester Hills, MI. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that buildings and structures in our city comply with all relevant building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct on-site inspections of buildings and structures to verify compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Review construction plans and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Issue permits and certificates of occupancy as required.
  • Enforce building codes and regulations through education and enforcement.
  • Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Associates degree in a related field AND three (3) years directly related experience OR High School diploma or GED equivalent AND six (6) years directly related experience.
  • Registration with the State of Michigan under Act 407 as a Plans Examiner and Building Inspector as determined by the State of Michigan.
  • Intermediate proficiency with office computers and related software.
  • International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Residential and Commercial Plan Reviewer and Inspector or the ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of position hire date.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License with no more than four (4) points currently on record.
Benefits:
  • Pension - 15% of employees salary contributed to defined compensation (401a) plan; 50% vested after 3 years; 75% vested after 4 years and 100% vested after 5 years.
  • Retiree Health Care Funding Plan - 4% of employee's salary contributed to retiree health care funding plan; vested after 5 years.
  • Vacation - 10 days to a maximum of 25 days annually as accrued based on tenure.
  • Annual Leave - 13 days annually as accrued.
  • Holidays - 12 days annually.
