Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Network Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Information Technology Department, you will be responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting our district-wide and local area data and telecommunications networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Network Design and Implementation: Plan, design, procure, install, and test the performance of wide/local area network configurations and associated hardware and software.
  • Network Maintenance and Support: Maintain and support voice and data communications network hardware and software.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve wide/local area network and voice communication issues, and anticipate and resolve potential future problems.
  • Security and Compliance: Assist in analyzing technology risks and security risks, and notify supervisor if warranted. Assist in implementing policies, programs, and procedures of a district-wide computer security program.
  • Technical Support and Training: Provide technical support to other Information Technology Department staff as required, and assist with account administration. Assist in the development and presentation of a computer training program in relation to computer security.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Four years of experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems.
  • Certifications: A Cisco CCNA certification may be substituted for one year of the required education or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate Study: Graduate study in the designated fields may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
  • Full-Time Paid Experience: Full-time paid experience in network design, installation, and maintenance may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment, including computers.
