Job Title: Naval Architect Engineer

At General Dynamics Electric Boat, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Naval Architect Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Naval Architecture Department, you will be responsible for determining the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic characteristics of submarines, providing waterfront hydrostatics support, and providing technical oversight to our waterfront infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Concept design activities, including design requirement trade-off assessments, early design optimization, team leadership, and development of initial hydrostatic estimates.
  • Hydrodynamic analyses, including hydrodynamic loading of flow-exposed structure, maneuvering analysis, hull and control surface shaping, and whole-boat resistance.
  • Hydrostatic calculations, including determination of tank volumes, ship displacement, trim, draft, surfaced and submerged ship stability, and evaluation of damage conditions.
  • Waterfront activities, including support of blocking, docking, submarine launching, and barge transportation of major hull sections.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering with a background in marine design or fluid mechanics.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and critical problem-solving skills.
  • Highly motivated, able to perform independently, and interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment.
  • Background or experience in marine vehicle design is strongly preferred.
