Position Overview
The Social Services Program Assistant plays a vital role in delivering essential support to individuals and families in need. This position is integral to the mission of the Department of Human Services, focusing on enhancing the well-being of community members.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructs and models essential life skills for clients, including budgeting, meal preparation, household management, and childcare.
- Facilitates transportation for clients and their families to various appointments, including medical, educational, and counseling sessions.
- Assists clients in navigating available resources by connecting them with relevant organizations and agencies.
- Contributes to the development and oversight of behavior modification plans, as well as parenting and anger management workshops.
- Engages in training sessions to enhance clients' employment skills, providing necessary materials and support.
- Documents and monitors family interactions, ensuring thorough records are maintained.
- Handles administrative tasks such as answering calls, processing referrals, preparing documents, and managing correspondence.
- Performs additional duties as required to support the department's objectives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, complemented by at least one year of experience in a related social services field. Additional qualifications may be considered based on agency requirements.
Skills and Competencies
- Familiarity with community resources and agency protocols.
- Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
- Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate practical living skills.
- Strong observational and evaluative skills for client interactions.
- Competence in interviewing clients and gathering pertinent information.
- Ability to articulate information clearly in both written and verbal formats.
