We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Animal Care Specialist to join our team at UTMB Health. As a key member of our Animal Resources Center, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional care to laboratory animals, ensuring their health and well-being in a safe and sanitary environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in providing daily husbandry care, including feeding, watering, and cleaning of animal enclosures.
- Operate and maintain equipment, such as autoclaves and cage washers, to ensure proper functioning and sanitation.
- Document daily, weekly, and monthly duties accurately, including observations of animal behavior and any signs of disease.
- Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure the health and well-being of animals, and provide specialized care as needed.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure, and attend in-house training programs to stay up-to-date on laboratory animal science.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; no experience necessary.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a standard research facility environment.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to follow safety precautions and wear protective equipment.
