The Surgical Technologist operates under the guidance of a surgeon to ensure the safe and effective execution of both invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures. This role is critical in maintaining a secure operating room environment, ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly, and that surgical procedures are performed under optimal conditions to enhance patient safety.
The Surgical Technologist is well-versed in the principles of asepsis and sterile technique, combining knowledge of human anatomy, surgical methods, and the tools and technologies necessary to assist a physician in performing invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Functions as an integral member of the surgical team in the capacity of the scrub person.In the primary scrub role, the Surgical Technologist manages the instruments, supplies, and equipment essential during surgical operations.
Possesses a thorough understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the surgeon's needs.
Demonstrates the requisite knowledge and capability to ensure quality patient care throughout the surgical process, remaining vigilant in maintaining the sterile field.
Applies expertise in advanced surgical techniques.
Utilizes knowledge pertinent to emergency situations and surgical protocols within the operating room.
Fosters a collaborative environment with peers in making decisions regarding surgical patient care.
Acts as an informal resource for less experienced technologists.
Provides assistance in training students and onboarding new surgical technologists.
Serves as a mentor and role model. Reviews all operational data related to efficiency and productivity metrics and established targets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent and/or graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Certification and Licensing:
Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
Current AHA Basic Life Support certificate is required.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
Ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Commitment to the University's core values.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Demonstrates knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room.
