Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver tailored speech-language therapy to meet individual student needs and achieve IEP goals through various session formats.
  • Utilize innovative and flexible therapeutic techniques grounded in evidence-based practices.
  • Identify early signs of student challenges through a structured Response to Intervention model.
  • Conduct speech and language screenings for early learners.
  • Support students from diverse linguistic backgrounds and age groups.
  • Facilitate professional development workshops for educators and fellow speech-language therapists.
  • Guide contracted speech-language pathologists in executing IEP-mandated therapy.
  • Provide consultations to fellow speech-language therapists within the KIPP NYC team.
  • Prepare comprehensive annual IEP reports detailing student progress, objectives, and recommendations.
  • Administer interim and baseline assessments for speech and language.
  • Oversee graduate student interns, offering valuable mentorship opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families regarding student progress and strategies.
  • Engage actively in Child Study Teams and the broader KIPP school community.
Additional Expectations:
  • Conduct screenings for early learners.
  • Organize and lead groups focused on early literacy and phonological awareness.
  • Provide tailored interventions for first-grade students through RtI support.
  • Deliver Guided Reading Instruction to enhance language and literacy skills.
  • Collaborate with contracted therapists through regular communication and observations.
  • Contribute to professional development initiatives and consult with classroom teachers.
  • Participate in Child Study Teams and regional meetings with fellow therapists.
  • Adhere to school schedules and engage in school activities and duties.
  • Ensure timely communication and meet documentation deadlines.
  • Maintain an engaging environment through bulletin boards and student work displays.
  • Attend school events and adhere to the dress code.

Optional Responsibilities:

  • Manage a designated caseload of IEP students as required.
  • Conduct individual or group sessions focusing on articulation and fluency.
  • Perform hearing screenings as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster a collaborative work environment, reflecting essential traits such as enthusiasm, resilience, optimism, compassion, and social awareness.
  • Preferred minimum of two years of direct experience working with K-8 students.
  • Possession of New York State certification in the relevant field.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence is required.
  • Demonstrated interest in contributing to a mission-driven, team-oriented school community.
  • Proven track record of enhancing student achievement within educational settings.
