Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Operations/Shipping Technician is responsible for managing the processing of prescriptions, which includes:

  • Collecting and documenting patient and insurance details in the electronic system.
  • Accurately labeling and dispensing medications.
  • Obtaining necessary approvals from the supervising pharmacist and insurance providers.

Patient and Insurance Communication

Engage with patients and insurance representatives to confirm details and coverage. Address any issues or denied claims and complete prior authorization paperwork as required.

Shipping Management

Generate and organize shipping labels along with necessary documentation for each order. Ensure prescriptions are securely packaged for delivery to patients.

Inventory Oversight

Monitor pharmaceutical stock levels and forecast future requirements. Place orders for medications to meet patient demand effectively.

Daily Operations Coordination

Prepare a daily shipping list for the Intake Coordinators to schedule future prescription shipments.

Patient Interaction

Contact patients to discuss policies and procedures, as well as to arrange for prescription refills.

Communication Management

Handle incoming and outgoing calls and emails professionally.

Delivery Tracking

Ensure that prescription deliveries are tracked and arrive on schedule.

Compliance Assurance

Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and professional standards, along with company policies and procedures.

Team Collaboration

Participate in departmental meetings and assist in training new employees as needed.

Work Environment

This role is conducted within a pharmacy setting, supported by an on-site pharmacist.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Possess knowledge of insurance formularies, medications (both brand and generic), pharmacy regulations, and insurance protocols. Strong computer and calculator skills are essential, along with exceptional customer service abilities. Proficiency in written and verbal communication, accuracy, time management, teamwork, and organizational skills is required. The ability to manage frequent interruptions and adapt to changing priorities is crucial.

Physical Requirements

The role requires regular communication, prolonged periods of sitting or standing, and the ability to use hands for computer operation. Visual acuity for reading printed materials and computer screens is necessary, along with the capacity to concentrate. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs may be required.

Education and Experience

A completed Pharmacy Technician Program with Board Certification and 1-3 years of relevant experience is required. Familiarity with the National Drug Code (NDC) is essential.

Preferred Experience

Experience in a retail pharmacy setting is advantageous.

Background Checks

Successful completion of a federal background check, child abuse clearance, TB test, and drug screening is mandatory.
