Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at The University of Kansas Health System. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient flow of patients through our healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Facilitate examination and treatment of patients in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service.
  2. Contribute to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, maintaining supply/equipment inventory, and assisting physicians, other medical staff, nurses, other interdisciplinary team members, and support staff.
  3. Accurately schedule tests, obtain films and reports, and prepare laboratory specimens according to policy.
  4. Assist physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
  5. Collaborate with members of the healthcare team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care.
  6. Electronically submit, call, and/or fax prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
  7. Maintain medical records, ensure all required documentation is available in the medical record, distribute reports and correspondence, file, photocopy, and process forms related to medical charts.
  8. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stock assigned areas, and ensure par levels of supplies are maintained.
  9. Perform clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification of tests, procedures, and medications, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and entering ambulatory care charges.
  10. Perform simple procedures as directed by the nurse or physician and as defined on the competency checklist.
  11. Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures and document in medical records.
Requirements

High School Graduate

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant or CCMA or NCRMA certification

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or NCRMA

Basic typing and word processing

Work Environment

This is a part-time position.
