Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Customer Service Representative I. In this role, you will be responsible for engaging with customers, responding to their concerns, and providing information about our services and operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the public, responding to their inquiries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Communicate and explain departmental and City policies, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations to customers.
  • Process and review applications for utility service, building permits, occupational licenses, or employment, and interpret codes, regulations, and procedures to applicants and customers.
  • Communicate and explain rates or fees, enter requests for service, and maintain accurate records and service files.
  • Resolve billing problems, receive payments, and tender receipts in office and field environments.
  • Handle payments, credit card payments, and other cashiering tasks, verifying monies and maintaining accurate cash drawers.
  • Prepare receipts for deposit and connection fees, prepare and process work orders and transfer forms, post, check, or verify data, and correct inaccuracies.
  • Communicate with Utility customers to collect payments on delinquent accounts or make necessary arrangements for repayment by telephone, written correspondence, and/or in person.
  • Examine, evaluate, and review accounts receivable and various computer data bases to determine if delinquent payments have been made, perform general collection work, deliver written delinquent notices, and discontinue services for nonpayment.
  • Perform routine service connects and disconnects for water customers and gas customers, utilize computer terminals to enter and receive data, maintain, coordinate, and organize departmental records and files, enter parts for installation jobs, and ensure all permits are attached and prepared.
  • Compile, draft, and type bills and correspondence, audit, review, and monitor account records in response to customer requests or to track payment of accounts receivable.
  • Screen, evaluate, and recommend applicants for employment, answer questions regarding position openings, and explain entrance examination procedures.
Requirements:
  • A valid State driver's license is required.
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or G.E.D. Certificate, some college preferred, plus one (1) year of clerical office and/or customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
