KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Crisis Specialist / Clinical Supervisor, the Youth Crisis Intervention Specialist (MHS-I) is responsible for conducting participant intake and initiating all necessary documentation to open cases. This role involves performing crisis risk assessments and providing face-to-face stabilization services to youth experiencing psychiatric crises. Building rapport and trust with participants is essential, as is offering empathetic support and encouragement.

Ensuring participant safety is paramount, which includes exploring alternatives and providing options to mitigate immediate threats related to the crisis. The specialist will maintain a directory of collaborative contacts and community resources relevant to the needs of participants. Developing actionable plans to motivate participants to engage in their own stabilization is a key function of this role.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Providing information and referral services to community resources and agencies.
  • Transporting participants to hospitals or other designated locations, with parental consent when necessary.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of participant information at all times.
  • Participating in program staff meetings and regular supervisory sessions, as well as attending training and professional development activities, particularly on topics related to relevant laws, the judicial process, and cultural/ethnic diversity.
  • Accurately entering data into the computer system and maintaining case records, mileage logs, and other reports in a timely manner.

EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • A four-year college degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field. Basic knowledge or training in specialized areas such as social work, accounting, finance, business administration, or marketing is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of one year and up to two years of relevant experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other professionals and agency personnel.
  • Knowledge of community resources and legal frameworks pertinent to crisis intervention.
  • Capacity to maintain composure in high-pressure and emergency situations.
  • Strong verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Experience working with youth in crisis, including those exhibiting oppositional behaviors, suicidal ideation, or aggression.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid driver's license and a clear driving record are required, along with the use of a personal vehicle for participant transportation as needed.
  • This position requires on-call availability 24/7.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and necessary training, including CPR, CPI, and First Aid.
