JOB SUMMARY:

The Youth Empowerment Coordinator (YEC) is a full-time, non-exempt role within the Outreach and Prevention programs, concentrating on services tailored to Substance Use Prevention (SUP).

These services are supported by various governmental and other funding sources to assist youth and families in the community. The YEC will execute these services through the critical functions outlined in this job description, under the supervision of the Program Manager for the Outreach and Prevention services.

Essential Qualifications:


A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field is required, with a preference for candidates possessing at least one year of experience in outreach/prevention services for at-risk youth and their families; or an Associate's degree with two years of relevant experience, including one year in delivering prevention curriculum-based programs; or a High School Diploma with four years of pertinent experience; and/or a combination of some college education and related work experience.

Must possess a valid driver's license, TB clearance, Pre-Employment Medical Clearance, and certifications in First Aid and CPR. Background checks including DHS FBI/Criminal History & CAN, and Salvation Army clearances are also required.



Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise in delivering educational services through various media formats, including tele-video technology. Proficiency in writing case documents and necessary program reports is also preferred.

Key Responsibilities:


Implement curriculum-based programs focusing on prevention and outreach for youth and their families, addressing issues such as teen pregnancy prevention, substance and alcohol abuse prevention, tobacco cessation, and other adolescent challenges.

Under the guidance of the Program Manager, fulfill assigned program requirements to achieve all outcomes of the designated prevention/outreach contracts.

Conduct community outreach activities aimed at engaging at-risk youth and their families.

Develop and execute family strengthening initiatives, fostering community partnerships and collaborations to optimize resources for serving youth and their families.

Provide case management services for clients involved in assigned contracts.

Deliver monthly and quarterly reports to the Program Manager detailing clients served and services rendered under assigned contracts.

Coordinate program activities with and engage in other agency-sponsored initiatives.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Ability to relate to a broad spectrum of individuals and situations, including youth, parents, agency personnel, school staff, law enforcement, businesses, civic organizations, supervisors, and similar stakeholders.

Capability to train and orient volunteers and less experienced personnel.

Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team framework and participate in staff training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


This position requires various physical activities, including sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching, standing, walking, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. It may involve driving, lifting, and carrying weights ranging from 25 to over 50 pounds, as well as traveling by airplane.


COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
This role necessitates effective communication with co-workers, clients, and vendors, including written correspondence and verbal interactions. It involves training others, providing and receiving instructions, composing written materials, and utilizing modern communication technologies.

SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Proficiency in using office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, and calculators.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work will occur indoors at Family Intervention Services, with potential attendance at training sessions both locally and on the mainland.
