Department Summary

The University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) invites applications for the role of Vice President of Operations.


Established as an independent institution in 2010, UNT Dallas is recognized as the fastest-growing public university in Texas, the only public, four-year university in the City of Dallas, and the most affordable four-year university in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

UNT Dallas' main campus is situated in southern Dallas County.

UNT Dallas also includes the UNT Dallas College of Law in Downtown Dallas and is part of the University of North Texas System.

Position Overview


The Vice President of Operations is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the daily administrative functions of the University of North Texas at Dallas, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives and vision of the institution.

The Vice President collaborates closely with the President, university cabinet, and other key stakeholders to plan, execute, and assess the operational performance of the organization.

The Vice President also leads and manages operational functions, including Facilities, Police, Parking, and Campus Events.

Minimum Qualifications


A bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a related field, along with 10 years of progressive leadership and management experience in a relevant field, preferably within a higher education context.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals and stakeholders.

Familiarity with best practices and trends in the administration of operational functions.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to operational functions.

Understanding of budgeting and financial management principles and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Government Relations, Political Science, Communications, Business, or a related field, with 7 years of experience.

Knowledge of the legislative/government relations ecosystem.

Advanced understanding of UNT Dallas policies, procedures, and protocols.

Working knowledge of the operational and long-range goals of UNT Dallas.

Job Duties

1. Develop and implement operational policies and procedures that align with the organization's mission, vision, and values.

2. Support the President and cabinet in formulating and executing the strategic plan and vision of the organization.

3. Coordinate and oversee the operational activities of the organization, ensuring efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

4. Analyze and report on the operational performance of the organization, identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions.

5. Manage and optimize the Operations Division budget and resources, ensuring cost-effectiveness and sustainability.


6. Ensure procurement activities are appropriately directed and authorized, and that operations of respective business/auxiliary units effectively serve the needs of the campus community.


7. Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, partners, and the surrounding Dallas community.

8. Lead and mentor division teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.


9. Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, evaluating their impact and applicability to the organization.

10. Supervise and evaluate the performance of directors and managers of division teams.


11. Coordinate and collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality services and support to the university community.

12. Identify and address operational issues and risks, implementing appropriate solutions and mitigation strategies.

13. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as university policies and standards.

14. Lead and support initiatives and projects that enhance the university's operational efficiency and effectiveness.

15. Represent the university in external relations and partnerships related to operations functions.
