Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Ochsner Health. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and respiratory therapy services to patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

- Provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support services to in-patients and out-patients.
- Set up, monitor, and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation as needed.
- Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
- Deliver intermittent therapy and assist with changing artificial airways as ordered by a physician.

Requirements

- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
- Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.

Very Heavy Work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work.

Mechanical lifting devices (carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized. Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability).

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be an occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
