Job Overview

The Residential Security Officer position within Housing and Residential Services is responsible for overseeing the safety and security of dormitory facilities. This role includes monitoring the premises, enforcing safety regulations, and addressing any incidents that may compromise security.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct regular patrols of assigned dormitory areas to deter and report unauthorized access and vandalism.
  2. Monitor surveillance systems, fire alarms, smoke detectors, window locks, and lighting to ensure a secure environment.
  3. Report maintenance and repair issues promptly.
  4. Respond to emergencies such as fires, medical situations, flooding, and hazardous material incidents, coordinating with emergency services as needed.
  5. Utilize two-way radios to communicate with the Operations Center and supervisors.
  6. Monitor and manage the entry of residents and guests, addressing any policy violations and reporting trespassers to the appropriate authorities.
  7. Prepare and submit detailed reports regarding unusual occurrences and incidents.
  8. Assist residents with lockouts as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
  • Ability to comprehend written instructions, safety signage, and other relevant documents.
  • Proficiency in using email and job-specific software after receiving necessary training.
  • Capability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred:
  • One year of relevant experience in a similar role.

Work Environment:

This position involves ascending multiple flights of stairs, frequent periods of sitting, standing, and walking, and the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.


Compensation:
$30.70 per hour

Schedule:
Friday to Tuesday, 12:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. (Wednesday and Thursday off)

This role is considered essential according to the MIT Policy on Emergency Closing or Early Release. During emergencies, employees in this position are required to report to work unless specifically authorized otherwise by their supervisors. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
