Primary Function
Wor-Wic Community College is seeking applications for an Early Childhood Education Support Specialist to work 32.5 hours per week. This role involves collaborating with instructors and other professionals within the educational environment to assist students in small group settings to meet learning objectives. This position is classified as a mandatory reporter for the Department of Human Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates small group learning sessions focused on specific skills or concepts tailored to students' individual levels; supports large group activities, field trips, and other special events; works with individuals or small groups to reinforce concepts introduced by the educator; and provides structured practice activities as designed by the instructor.
- Guides independent study and assignments as directed by the educator.
- Encourages positive behavior by adhering to classroom management strategies and individual behavior plans; reports behavioral issues to the instructor and assists in resolving student challenges.
- Assists with daily routines including meals, cleanup, personal hygiene, and other essential tasks.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma.
- At least one year of experience in a childcare environment.
- Strong organizational, self-motivational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with educators, students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using classroom and instructional tools.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Successful completion of criminal and child protective services background checks, a pre-employment medical evaluation, and approval from the relevant educational authority is required.
- Must complete:
- Basic health and safety training and ADA training within 30 days of hire.
- Center aide orientation within 90 days of hire.
- A minimum of 6 clock hours of continuing education annually.
- Preference will be given to candidates holding an associate degree in early childhood education or a related field.
This position is contingent upon grant funding and is scheduled for 32.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (including a 30-minute lunch). This is a 10-month position aligned with the academic calendar. The selected candidate will embody the college's commitment to excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion; collaborate effectively with others; and support innovative ideas to enhance institutional effectiveness.
