Under limited supervision, a Forklift Operator / Sod Loader I performs manual labor to assist in the maintenance, stocking, and fulfillment of customer orders within retail warehouses and outlet yards.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload products from shipping areas using manual labor and/or forklift equipment.
- Operate heavy machinery for loading, unloading, and transporting agricultural products and other equipment.
- Assist customers with loading their purchases.
- Support shipping and receiving operations by unloading trucks, verifying merchandise, and matching purchase orders with sales orders for processing.
- Interpret customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or shipped.
- Transport materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or other designated locations.
- Sort, rotate, and organize inventory and products on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined criteria such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
- Ensure inventory is accessible and safe for both sales personnel and customer traffic.
- Assemble customer orders from stock and place them on pallets or shelves or relocate them to holding or shipping areas.
- Label materials with identifying information using appropriate methods.
- May perform facility maintenance tasks as needed.
- Carry out any additional tasks assigned to enhance overall team operations.

Work Environment
The role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, necessitating appropriate attire. The employee must be willing to work in challenging conditions, including extreme weather, confined spaces, and heights up to 8 feet. The position involves operating machinery that produces loud noises and exhaust, with personal protective equipment provided by the employer. Handling and operating heavy equipment may present risks of slips, trips, and falls.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The role may require sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must possess full range of motion of arms and legs and demonstrate constant movement and use of limbs; good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina are essential.
Typical Work Hours
This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday, with some Saturday work required during peak seasons.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Experience in forklift operations.
- Ability to work in a safety-conscious environment.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Pre-employment background check and drug screening are mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in landscaping or sod/turfgrass management.
