Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner

The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will independently manage an internal, corporate medical practice to provide evaluation, consultation, and case management for employees. This role will ensure medical regulatory compliance and provide education to reduce lost-time incidents due to illness or injury.
Key Responsibilities- Perform pre-employment physical exams and evaluate, treat, and manage occupational injuries to support employee health and well-being.
- Provide care for walk-in patients and manage the on-site health office, including scheduling, supplies, and equipment maintenance.
- Assess and monitor employee fitness for duty through physical examinations and respiratory testing.
- Fit test employees for Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and provide education on preventative health and chronic condition management.
- Collaborate with business and external medical providers to return employees to work promptly following illness or injury.
- Review and analyze surveillance data and share findings with stakeholders for performance management and quality improvement.
- Evaluate employee compliance with OSHA safety standards and regulations and provide education and recommendations for compliance.
- Conduct point-of-care testing, including urinalysis and blood glucose testing, and collect urine for drug testing.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and collaborate with team members and external partners.
- NP applicants: Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing.
- PA applicants: Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and current board certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Active New York state license certified for NP or PA.
- Minimum of three years' experience providing direct clinical care as NP or PA, specifically caring for adults in a primary care/family medicine private practice or clinic.
- Within six months of hire, attain certification by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to perform DOT physical examinations, certification as a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC) by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC), and spirometry training in a program approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
