About the Opportunity

The Department of Cancer Prevention and Control at the West Virginia University Cancer Institute is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Program Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will play a critical role in supporting our mission to reduce cancer incidence and mortality in West Virginia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain internal and external partnerships to advance our department's goals and objectives.
  • Design, develop, and implement resources, including forms, trainings, public education materials, patient navigation resources, events, and communications, to support our cancer prevention and control efforts.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to professionals, including doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and medical assistants, on screening guidelines, available programs in West Virginia, and program requirements.
  • Assist in the development of articles, abstracts, and posters to promote our programmatic work and outreach.
  • Collect and input data, develop and implement strategies to address weaknesses, and reinforce positive practices of partners.
  • Collaborate with other department staff and programs to extend our reach and impact.
  • Coordinate internal and external programmatic meetings, including steering and advisory boards, to engage stakeholders and advance our goals.
  • Apply for additional funding opportunities to support our projects.
  • Document and report program information accurately and efficiently.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as public health, social work, counseling, communications, marketing, or health education, with 6 months of experience in a program support role, preferably in cancer control.
  • Or, a Bachelor's degree in a related field with 2 years of experience in a program support role, preferably in cancer control.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of current health issues, health education and behavioral theories, and health information needs of the medically underserved.
  • Ability to interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds and persons of all ages and orientations.
