Position Overview

gpac is collaborating with a client in the food production sector seeking a skilled Ammonia Refrigeration Operator. This role is critical for the effective operation of the ammonia refrigeration system within a food processing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute start-up and shut down protocols for the ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Maintain accurate documentation through daily log sheets and conduct routine inspections of refrigeration equipment.
  • Oversee and adjust oil levels in ammonia compressors, ensuring regular drainage of oil-pots.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration machinery, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and other essential components.
  • Support technicians in diagnosing and repairing refrigeration systems, focusing on pumps, motors, and valves.
  • Carry out daily operational tasks related to fire-tube boilers and industrial air compressors.
  • Calibrate equipment and instrumentation as required.
  • Assist in safe ammonia pump-outs and respond to Anhydrous Ammonia releases.
  • Ensure water quality in cooling towers is maintained.
  • Promote a clean and safe working environment.
  • Utilize forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG lifts as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, along with 2-3 years of maintenance experience, including 1-2 years in Industrial Refrigeration.
  • Completion or ability to complete the RETA Operator 1 course (CARO Certification may substitute).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Experience in a Food Manufacturing Facility is preferred.
  • Familiarity with fire-tube boilers and industrial air compressors is advantageous.
