Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at American Oncology Management Company. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with medical procedures, including bone marrow biopsies, fine needle aspirations, and pelvic exams.
  • Perform laboratory blood work, including phlebotomy and quality control procedures.
  • Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation and send outside labs to appropriate facilities as dictated by patient insurance plans.
  • Maintain test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists according to regulatory agencies.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ9 depression screening of patients as requested by physicians and document in the Onco/EMR system.
  • Place patients in exam rooms and prepare for physicians in a timely manner.
  • Receive lab reports via phone, lab system, or fax and document in patient charts or Onco/EMR for physician review.
  • Schedule outside testing, referrals to other physicians, and hospital admissions as ordered by physicians.
  • Document all QC and QA corrective actions and maintain adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Initiate troubleshooting procedures when instrument malfunctions occur and contact central lab or instrument service company as needed.
  • Perform EKG testing where applicable and maintain compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
Requirements
  • High School or GED
  • Certifications/Licenses: As required by state where employed
  • BLS required
  • Valid Driver's License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • One-year experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician's office with ability to perform venipuncture
Preferred Qualifications
  • Critical thinking skills, including solid problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management, and organizational skills
  • Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness
  • Good command of the English language
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
Work Environment

This position requires working in a fast-paced, multi-site environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from various stakeholders and sites.

Occasional overtime may be required, and weekend shifts based on location hours and operational needs.
