Position Overview

The Lead Fire Protection Engineer will oversee the design efforts on diverse multi-disciplinary projects and spearhead the development of thorough fire protection documentation, encompassing fire suppression, alarm systems, smoke control, and life safety measures. This role involves conducting assessments for both new and existing life safety initiatives, managing the construction oversight process, and may require travel to client locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the design, specification, and integration of various fire protection systems, including wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and foam/water suppression systems.
  • Oversee fire water supply infrastructure, including storage tanks, pumps, and distribution piping.
  • Manage outdoor fire suppression systems, such as monitors and spray systems, as well as voice evacuation fire alarm systems.
  • Conduct fire protection calculations, including hydraulic analyses and battery calculations.
  • Evaluate building and life safety standards, focusing on construction types, occupancy classifications, egress, and smoke management systems.
  • Facilitate construction administration, coordinating with field teams to address design-related installation challenges and reviewing contractor submissions.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations to clients.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders while identifying new business opportunities.
  • Manage marketing initiatives and key project pursuits to meet revenue and customer satisfaction objectives.
  • Oversee the development of cost proposals and financial performance standards.
  • Monitor project performance and provide leadership and guidance to the department.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in fire protection engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant design experience (a Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as hydraulic calculation software, AutoCAD, Revit, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to obtain access authorization to sensitive facilities and data.
  • NICET certification and experience with military standards are preferred.
  • Professional Fire Protection Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
