The primary objective of this role is to oversee all facets of railcar sanitation and the evaluation, care, and upkeep of tools utilized in the cleaning process. The individual must possess the ability to interpret Watco work directives, safely enter confined spaces while donning movement and sight-restricting personal protective equipment under limited lighting conditions to cleanse the interiors of tank and hopper cars in accordance with Watco Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) protocols. Additionally, the role involves inspecting cleaned railcar interiors to ensure compliance with customer, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Association of American Railroads (AAR), and Watco standards, as well as completing necessary cleaning documentation. It is imperative that all organizational guidelines are adhered to and that safety regulations are strictly followed during the execution of duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • The essential responsibilities are outlined below. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
  • Interpret work directives to execute required cleaning of railcar interiors according to established procedures.
  • Coordinate and accomplish cleaning tasks efficiently within designated timeframes.
  • Inform the supervisor of any materials and/or equipment necessary to ensure the successful completion of job responsibilities.
  • Engage with team members in a collaborative environment, as well as with supervisory personnel.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, maintain a tidy work area, and comply with all Watco EHS policies.
  • Ensure that FRA, AAR, and customer quality assurance standards are consistently met.
  • Perform any other assigned duties, including special projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
  • Capable of acquiring function-specific operational knowledge and passing an examination to demonstrate understanding.
  • Adept at learning, adhering to, and executing required recordkeeping for Watco EHS, Quality Assurance (QA), and cleaning policies, procedures, and checklists.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, both indoors and outdoors; safely navigate around heavy machinery and on, under, and inside railcars, as well as near railroad tracks.
  • Familiarity with the equipment and tools necessary for safe entry during cleaning operations.
  • Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Capable of wearing and maintaining Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toed boots, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, and various protective suits.
